Gingerbread Christmastree


Ingredients: Gingerbread Gingerbread Christmastree

  100g butter
250g honey
125g sugar
1/2 package mixed gingerbread spices
600g flour
pinch of salt
2 tsp. cocoa
1 whole egg
1 egg white
1 cup of icing sugar
little red candles

Boil honey, sugar and the gingerbread spice-mix while constantly stirring. Let cool. Sieve the flour and cocoa on a baking sheet and blend with the honey, egg and salt. Beat the dough until firm and let it chill for a night covered with a damp cloth. Cut cardboard patterns for 9 stars from 5 to 15 cm in diameter and 7 round patterns of about 3cm in diameter. Preheat the oven to 200°C. Roll out the dough 1/2cm thick and cut out stars and cookies with the patterns.
Place them on a lined baking tray and bake for 10 min. and let cool on a cooling rack. Blend the egg whites with icing sugar so that you get a smooth glaze, there should be some sugar left over. Take the 2 biggest stars and glue a round cookie between them with the glaze. Proceed so with the rest of the stars and cookies. Place the smallest star upright on top. Sieve the rest of the icing sugar on the tree and glue the candles on the edges of the stars with the remaining glaze.
