Basler Treats


Ingredients: Spice Cookies Basler Treats

  350g honey
350g sugar
90g each chopped almonds, hazelnuts and Walnuts
570g flour
zest of one lemon
125g candied orange peel and candied lemon peel
30g ground cinnamon
2 tsp. ground cloves
1g ground nutmeg
2 tsp. potash
2 tsp. salts of hartshorn
2 cl of arrack and kirsch (liquor)

Mix the honey and 250g of the sugar, heat gently in a pot and stir. Mix the flour with all of the nuts and the candied lemon and orange peel. Put all spices into the flour mixture and stir into the hot honey. Add the arrack and kirsch. Beat until smooth. Cover the bowl with a towel and put everything aside for a day.

Heat the oven to 180°C. Put liner on a baking tray and roll out the dough. The dough should be about 1.5 cm thick. Bake for 25 min. Mix the rest of the sugar with a little water and heat it until all the sugar dissolves. Spread thickly on the hot dough and slice it into squares.
